PSB Speakers announces partnership with Audiodo
JULY 16, 2020, PICKERING, ONTARIO, CANADA
PSB Speakers, founded by renowned acoustics designer Paul Barton and maker of high fidelity stereo and home theater speakers, and Audiodo™, makers of personal audio technologies, today announced an agreement that will integrate Audiodo's Personal Sound algorithms into future yet-to-be-announced PSB Speakers headphones. This collaboration is an important step forward in the development of our high-fidelity products.
Fans of PSB Speakers know that Barton is one of the pioneers in integrating psycho-acoustic principles into the design and manufacture of loudspeakers. As one of the participants in the groundbreaking Athena Project led by Dr. Floyd Toole at the famed National Research Council in Canada in the 1970s, Barton has always believed that human perception of sound is just as important in speaker design as the physical properties and behaviors of sound and sound waves. Barton has brought that philosophy into PSB speaker headphones through a technology called RoomFeel™, which ensures that music recorded and optimized for listening in a room still sounds natural when the room is essentially removed from the listening scenario and the speakers are pressed against the ear.
By using PSB speakers to integrate psychoacoustic principles into personal audio products such as headphones, Audiodo's Personal Sound technology will enable individual users to match their unique hearing experience to the True-to-Nature sound signature of PSB speakers' headphones. The head office is located in Malmö, Sweden. Audiodo's acoustics experts have more than 30 years of specialized and advanced knowledge in hearing calibration, personal profile calculation and audio processing algorithms.
"No two people hear the same things in the same way," explains Jenny Strömberg, CEO of Audiodo. "Even the hearing perception between the left and right ear of the same person can differ." Many factors influence hearing, such as the shape and size of ears and ear canals, as well as damage to the cilia from loud noises or infections. Combined with personal preferences and each person's unique neurological patterns, the sophistication of human hearing as a sense organ is often taken for granted. Through a series of audio tests and questions, Audiodo's technology creates a personal hearing profile for users that compensates for abnormalities in sound perception and hearing ability, allowing an individual to experience the True-to-Nature sound signature PSB speakers unimpeded. "There is a saying in high fidelity audio about 'revealing sound,' which means that a speaker has achieved a high degree of accuracy and a listener hears details in music that he or she had not heard before," said Paul Barton, Founder and Chief Acoustic Designer at PSB Speakers. "This partnership with Audiodo™ is really exciting because it will enhance the listening experience so much more - in a way, it will reveal just how revealing our speakers can be.
